WHAT IS THIS KPI?
The ‘Application Completion Rate’ is the ratio of successful candidate application
completions to the number of application starts for an open vacancy.

WHY IS THIS METRIC IMPORTANT?
Incomplete job applications by candidates adversely impacts the recruitment efforts to fill
the vacancy signaling issues in the recruitment process.

A low ‘Application Completion Rate’ indicates complexity or the presence of barriers in the
application process that have the potential to cause candidate frustration, resulting in
abandoned job applications.

A complex and time-consuming application process will dissuade top talent from applying
for the vacancy, especially for roles that are in high demand (such as Software Developer,
Data Scientist, Cyber Security, etc.)

Tracking and understanding this key metric will help address issues in the application
process. The candidate user experience throughout the application process should be
prioritised and can be improved by focusing on the following:

• Reducing the length of the applications
• Effective structuring of questions within the application
• Considering the nature of questions (removing sensitive or personal questions)
• Implementing the right technical infrastructure for receiving online applications
