The ‘Applicants per Vacancy’ KPI refers to the total number of applications received for a
job vacancy.

WHY IS THIS METRIC IMPORTANT?
Despite being one of the simpler metrics to calculate, it is a direct measure of job popularity
within the talent market.

It is a key metric that allows employers to evaluate the recruitment marketing efforts in
attracting top talent for the vacancy.

This KPI also supports in measuring the strength of the recruitment funnel in the initial stage
of the hiring process. Monitoring and reacting to this metric will enable employers to make
adjustments early in the recruitment process and increase chances of successful hiring.

Used in context, this metric is very powerful. However, when used in isolation, a high
‘Applicants per Vacancy’ value does not indicate an effective recruitment campaign. Factors
such as the strength of the employer brand, the salary being offered and where the role is
advertised can all drive high levels of inappropriate applications which may skew the
